Glen Abbey has one of Oakville’s most interesting histories. The land dates back to 1814 and was later home to the RayDor estate, built in the 1930s by mining executive Andre Doorman. In the 1960s, the property became a golf course, and in 1976 it reopened as Glen Abbey, designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Glen Abbey hosted its first Canadian Open in 1977 and has gone on to host the tournament more than any other course in Canada. Residential development followed from the 1980s into the early 2000s, creating one of Oakville’s most recognized golf course communities. The original stone manor still stands today as the Glen Abbey clubhouse.

The signature enclave within the neighbourhood is Fairway Hills, located off Dorval Drive next to the golf course. On the public side, students attend Abbey Lane, Heritage Glen, or Pilgrim Wood Public School, before graduating to Abbey Park High School, ranked among the top secondary schools in Ontario, or Garth Webb Secondary School.

On the Catholic side, students in the area attend St. Bernadette or St. Matthew, before moving on to St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School.

The Abbey Park catchment runs roughly from Upper Middle Road in the north to the QEW in the south, and from Sixteen Mile Creek in the east to Burloak Drive in the west, with feeder-school eligibility tied to graduation from Abbey Lane, Heritage Glen, or Pilgrim Wood.

Glen Abbey is one of Oakville's most trail-connected communities, with parkland and green space woven through nearly every pocket of the neighbourhood.

Glen Abbey Park and Heritage Way Park offer playgrounds and sports fields for families. The Glen Abbey Community Centre adds a library branch, an indoor pool, a fitness gym, squash courts, and two hockey rinks, along with outdoor courts and fields for soccer, baseball, and basketball.

The Sixteen Mile Creek valley runs through the community, giving you a network of trails for walking, running, and cycling that connects much of Glen Abbey to the wider Oakville trail system.

Glen Abbey offers quick access to the QEW and 403, putting downtown Toronto roughly 30 to 45 minutes away by car, longer during rush hour.

By transit, Oakville GO offers an express train during peak hours that skips several stops past Clarkson, shaving time off the trip to Union Station. The all-stops train takes about 42 minutes.
